Moving to Panama

1. Visit, then rent

Spend time in the regions you are considering, in both seasons if you can. Renting first lets you test the commute, the climate and the community before you commit. See rent first, then decide.

2. Residency

Panama offers several residency routes, some linked to investment in real estate. The rules and investment thresholds change, so take advice from a Panamanian immigration lawyer before you plan around a specific programme. Buying property does not, by itself, give you residency.

3. Banking

Opening a local bank account usually takes more documentation and time than people expect — references, proof of income and source of funds. Start early.

4. Healthcare

Private hospitals in Panama City and regional centres such as David offer modern care. Most foreign residents use private insurance.

5. Belongings and daily life

Decide early what you will ship and what you will buy locally, and whether you will drive. Many newcomers furnish their home locally — all ChiQ residences can be delivered furnished as an option.
